Las Aletas, or "Little Wings", was formed in 1964 as an Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Santa Barbara, a chapter of National Assistance League. Members of Las Aletas volunteer their time and talents to serve the greater Santa Barbara community. Las Aletas Auxiliary manages three philanthropic programs, in addition to helping staff the Assistance League Thrift Shop.
An auxiliary formed by National Assistance League in the 1930s, provides teenagers with opportunities to serve those in need, develop a sense of responsibility and community spirit and learn leadership skills. Our chapter formed an Assisteens Auxiliary in January, 2006, composed of boys and girls currently enrolled in middle and high school. The group’s enthusiastic boys and girls develop their own philanthropic and fundraising programs, as well as offering support to the chapter's 17 philanthropic programs. The auxiliary provides an opportunity for members to complete community service hours required for graduation and develop skills and experience which reflect favorably on their college applications.
